Flamingos are group animals, they are pink in color because of the food they eat, often these are shrimps and crabs, mollusks and worms. The food of the Flamingo is taken out of the water with the beak. Their beak is like a filter. This holds the food and removes the sand and water. To do this, Flamingos take a bite of water with their heads upside down. Often, Flamingos stand on one leg. This is because it saves energy. They also regulate their body temperature. They cool the body with the leg in which they stand in the water. The other leg is then heated. With two legs in the water, the body temperature becomes too low. It is also useful when flamingos sink into the mud. Then they have a second leg to lift themselves up. Flamingos are about 1.40 to 1.75 long. This length is from beak to tail and weighs about 2 kilos. You can find them in the salt pans of Jan Thiel or on Renaissance island in Aruba or in Bonaire
