The theory is that a captive lionfish was released or escaped from an aquarium in the Atlantic Ocean off Florida. Beautiful to see, but also a big problem for the coral reefs. They have no natural enemies and the female can lay 2 million eggs per year. It is a fish-eating fish and therefore there is little balance in the sea. fish that keep the coral clean, but if they get eaten there is a big problem. The spines of a lionfish are poisonous and can even be deadly so if you want to hunt them you have to know how, also so that you don't damage the coral. The divers do try to help because it is really a problem.
